It’s 6 o’clock and you’re just arriving home from work. You’re starving and all you want to do is pick up the phone and have a pizza delivered to your doorstep.
After eating the pizza you immediately feel crappy and wake up with poor energy. This lack of energy means you have no will to meal prep and the cycle continues as you arrive home again reaching for the phone to get some takeout.
How do we cut this cycle considering it is so easy to fall into? One major shift we can make is by thinking about prepping a healthy meal just how we think about exercise.
You need to address the resistance around the action. It can be hard to build the motivation to get to the gym before or after work but you NEVER regret the workout that you accomplish, you only regret the workout you didn’t do.
We can apply this same logic to making a healthy meal when you don’t feel like it. The reality also is that you can prep a healthy meal in less time than it takes to order up a pizza and have it delivered to your door.
Once you start the process of cooking, the resistance will fall away and you’ll wonder why you didn’t want to have that healthy meal in the first place.
The secret to successfully beating the resistance around making a healthy meal for yourself when you really just don’t feel like it is to have a well-stocked pantry and refrigerator.
Some essentials you want to invest in are as follows:
- Beans & legumes
- Coconut oil
- Spices
- Rice
- Greens and various veg
Make sure that you have ample amounts of these foods at all times and you’ll see that you can make some pretty delicious meals in under 20 minutes.
When you have these items at your disposal you can easily move that “I don’t feel like cooking” feeling and nourish yourself with minimal effort.
So just as you would push yourself into the gym, push yourself into cooking that simple healthy meal and watch the resistance fall away.
