Have you ever heard someone say, “I don’t have a problem with sugar, I’ve never been much of a sweets person but I can’t seem to lose this extra weight”?

Sugar addiction doesn’t have to look like the person who binges on cookies, cupcakes and ice cream. Sugar is everywhere even if it doesn’t show up in a sweet way.

It’s difficult to look at a bag of chips and think of it as contributing to your sugar problem but the reality is that those starchy carbs are converting to sugars in your body and the “Bet you can’t eat just one” flavor means you can rack up your sugar intake with these savoury treats.

The food industry knows that if they sneak some hidden sugars into some unsuspecting treats that they can keep their consumers coming back for more. This means more money for them and a growing sugar problem for you.

There are so many different ways to manufacture and process sugar so that it doesn’t even taste sweet but still causes those reward centers to go off in the presence of sugar.

No matter what your vice is: richly sweet chocolate cake, a pint of your favorite ice cream, or the salty crunch of potato chips, sugar is going to play into it.

It doesn’t matter if you have a sweet tooth or you’re always looking for the savoury option, getting control of the role sugar plays in your diet will do wonders to getting you to a place of confidence.

As humans we tend to lean toward one toxic thing in our lives for a source of comfort. The issue begins when the reliance on that toxic substance becomes the bulk of your routine.

By addressing the mental, emotional and spiritual toxicity in your life, you can lessen the hold that the physical toxic substance has over you.

This doesn’t mean the complete absence of anything toxic in your life. Every culture has a toxic substance that they come together and celebrate around. It could be beer, wine, cheesy pasta etc. This substance is tolerated because it is enjoyed in the context of celebration and love for the people around you.

The key is to make sure that the majority of your routine is highly nourishing, energizing, and protective for the body and then that “toxic” meal of eggplant parmesan followed by your favorite homemade chocolate cake won’t control your life the way you once perceived it to.
