Dhal Recipe | Simple, Healthy, Delicious

Dhal Recipe | Simple, Healthy, Delicious

Dhal is one of my favourite quick dinner meals and this dhal recipe is my go-to recipe.

One of my stealth tactics for curbing sugar cravings is ….drumroll, please …to make sure I’m nourished versus full.

A big mistake I made early on was thinking if I was full I wouldn’t eat sweets.

I was wrong, especially when I filled up on foods that led to sugar cravings.

What I do now is have tasty easy meals on hand and this dhal recipe is awesome for that.

When I have a batch in the fridge (it freezes well too) I can whip up a meal in minutes but just adding some steamed greens or something like the green rice recipe we shared a few weeks ago.

It is also great as a veggie dip or to serve alongside some roasted veg but honestly, the thing I most like it on is simply steamed brown rice.

In today’s Sweet Freedom Recipe we are featuring the Dhal recipe that will be an awesome side, main or snack that will nourish you and quash sugar cravings.

Let me know what you think!

Hugs and Love,

Sherry

Zuudles (Zucchini Noodles) Dressed with Glory Dressing

Zuudles (Zucchini Noodles) Dressed with Glory Dressing

Do not be fooled by the simplicity of the ingredients— this zucchini noodles vegan recipe will blow your mind!

The magic is in choosing the best quality you can find, making sure it is organic and minimally processed.

Variations and additions

  • Try different colored zucchini in combination or alone.
  • Cucumber works well for a salad and a lighter more hydrating salad.
  • Raw yams and sweet potatoes work for more of a starchy salad.
  • Add cherry tomatoes sliced in half and whole fresh basil leaves.

The things we wish we knew when first picking up this game changing grater….

Tips for easy washing up

Simply rinse the back and front under a gently running tap of warm water and give it a shake and all the vegetable bits will be removed. This is important because if you leave it to clean until the vegetable bits are dried on, it will be more difficult to clean.

Watch your beautiful self

This is a grater and even with the recommended safety handle it is important to respect that if it can cut tough veggies like beets you want to use caution when grating. You can order the safety handle or cut resistant gloves. In any event, protect yourself by being slow and cautious as you’re grating.

Wacky Unwanted Tip: Don’t be fooled by the color of this grater, it is not recommended for grating oranges.

Oohlala Cool Slaw

Oohlala Cool Slaw

Don’t be fooled by the low key, hippy dippy granola type ingredients in this salad, it is super simple but deceptively delicious and great for breakfast, a fast snack and even dessert.

Of course the ReturntoFood.tv grater makes all the difference and since you’ve purchased your very own, you’re half way there to making Epic Salads. The Lime makes all the difference. Make sure you have a fresh lime. Most limes I’ve discovered in Canada are not very fresh. The best way to tell if you are going to have a great lime flavor is to scratch the lime and if the zest gives off a beautiful lime flavor there’s a big chance it will taste fabulous too.

Ingredients

  • 2 Whole Carrot
  • 2 Whole Apples
  • 1/2 Cup Raisins or Sultanas, Chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Walnuts or pecans, Chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Lime Juice Fresh or Zest

Servings: 2-4

Instructions

  1. Toss ingredients together serve for breakfast or also makes a great dessert.
