A hummus recipe, homemade, is the a delightful, fresh and healthy dip that can be at hand in the fridge whenever you need a snack.

Hummus is one of the most versatile and simple foods that can be added to ALL kinds of things to add a touch of wonderful.

When hummus is good, it can be very good and when it doesn’t have just the right touches flavour wise, it can be pretty uninspiring.

We think this Sweet Freedom version with a little twist of chickpea miso is the best way to guarantee a delicious and more-ish flavour every time you make homemade hummus.

Hummus Recipe Homemade

? Ingredients ?

  • 2 Cups Chickpeas
  • 1 Tbsp Miso (Chickpea miso)
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 3 Tbsp Tahini
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt

? Instructions ?

Place all of the ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth.

Finish with any combination of Olive oil, Cayenne Pepper and or Paprika. 

Conclusion

This miso hummus is a great addition to your fridge as a healthy dipping sauce, or sandwich filler (make sure you use our gluten free tortillas recipe!).

Nut Pucks | Healthy Chocolate Recipe

Everyone loves a good healthy chocolate recipe.

By good, I mean; it tastes good, it’s good for you and you don’t have you spend a ton of time shopping or in the kitchen creating it.

With this in mind, we are excited to launch our favourite recipes that are designed to curb sugar cravings, replace nutrients lost from sugar consumption and heal sugar erosion.

So in today’s Sweet Freedom recipe, we are showing you how to make a healthy chocolate snack that will satisfy your sugar cravings without causing any harm to your body.

This recipe was a HUGE hit at our Sweet Freedom Retreat and was a huge revelation for those who didn’t believe you could make a healthy chocolate recipe so delicious!

Nut Pucks Recipe

? Ingredients ?

Healthy Chocolate Coating
  • 1 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp lacuma powder
  • large pinch sea salt
Nut Pucker Dough:
  • 1/2 cup almond butter (Strong uses raw organic almond butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp maca powder
  • 1 tbsp mesquite powder
  •  sea salt to taste

Healthy Chocolate Coating

In a double boiler (or a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water) melt coconut oil, add maple syrup and whisk to combine.

When completely homogenous (well blended), remove from heat and sift in cacao powder, lacuma powder, and add sea salt.

Fill silicon moulds or paper muffin cups with enough liquid chocolate to cover the bottom, about 2-3 mm in depth. You want just enough to cover and have a base that holds the chocolate but not too much as you have the majority of the chocolate covering the top of the nut pucker dough.

Place in the fridge or freezer and cool until solid, about five minutes.

Nut Pucker Dough:

Make the nut pucker dough by combining the remaining ingredients until a “dough ball” is formed. Add salt to taste and don’t worry if you can taste the salt as it provides a great contrast to the chocolate coating.

Roll the dough into chickpea (or bigger if you prefer more filling) size balls.

Place a ball on the chocolate base and gently flatten them not touching the edges of the cup, leaving enough room around the edges for the chocolate to fill in.

Pour just enough liquid chocolate to cover the nut pucker dough, making sure to cover the filling completely. Place in the freezer to harden for 30 minutes.

The nut pucks are ready to remove when they easily release from the moulds. If not, just pop them back in the freezer until they do.

Our Sweet Freedom Fighters on our 21 Day Sugar-Free Challenge voted this Nut Puck Recipe to be their favourite go-to-sweet-treat to satisfy their taste buds anytime they experienced strong sugar cravings.

Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipe | Vegan

Nothing beats a warm hot chocolate, but unfortunately most contain milk, cream and lots of sugar. This Sweet Freedom approved healthy hot chocolate recipe uses cashew nuts to hit those creamy notes we love in a hot chocolate.

We will be using 1 medjool date to sweeten this hot chocolate recipe which will provide just the right amount of sweetness to compliment the chocolate.

Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipe

? Ingredients ?

  • 1/2 cup cashews
  • 1 medjool date
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • Tiny pinch of Chili flakes
  • Sea Salt to taste
  • 1 cup hot water

? Instructions ?

Soak 1/2 Cup Cashews in room temperature water overnight or at least an hour for 2 hot chocolates.

Then, drain the water from the cashews and add the cashews to a blender.

Soften a date in hot water for 20 mins and then add the date (with hot water) and all of the other ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!

Conclusion

This healthy homemade chocolate recipe is to provide a healthy alternative for all you warm drink lovers out there who need their warm chocolatey fix but don’t want any processed sugar.

Our gluten free tortillas recipe is a guaranteed way to satisfy those bread cravings without any of the negative health effects of bread.

Bread is such a huge part of our culture, when it’s good, it’s really really good and when it is bad it is nasty.

Most of the bread on the supermarket shelves is not good for us and usually contains highly processed white flour, preservatives and other nasty chemicals.

It spikes our blood sugar and is so processed we could never replicate it in a natural environment.

The really good stuff can be hard to source, expensive and can be equally as addictive as regular breads.

So today we’ve got a gluten free wrap recipe that will surprise you in how good it tastes, how easy it is to prepare and how few ingredients it has (only has 3 ingredients one of which is water).

Gluten Free Tortillas Recipe

? Ingredients ?

  • 1 Cup Ground Flax Seed
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • Pinch of Salt

? Instructions ?

Combine ingredients in a pan on low heat.

Stir ingredients until a dough is formed.

Separate Dough into 5-6 balls.

Roll out the balls into flat circles.

Cook the circles in a pan on low heat for 1 minute on each side.

About 15 years ago I made this recipe on the Kerri- Anne Show in Sydney Australia and the switchboard lit up with thousands of people wanting this recipe.

Why would they want a recipe called ‘Poop Soup’?

Constipation is a massive problem affecting millions of people and although it is not the only reason, our modern low fibre diet is a big culprit.

~ In the UK around 182 people a day are admitted to hospital for chronic constipation costing 145 million pounds.

~15-30% of Canadians experience chronic constipation.

~Constipation testing costs in North America amount to US$6.9-billion annually and Americans spend over $700 million dollars in laxatives each year.

? Ingredients ?

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 T cold pressed coconut oil
  • 200 grams of portobello or crimini mushrooms, sliced thinly
  • 1 head of broccoli, ‘floretted’ and stem diced
  • 1/2 cup of green du Puy dark green lentils soaked overnight and water drained. You can use green lentils if you can’t find the du Puy
  • 1 clove garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste

? Instructions ?

Saute onion until tender and then add garlic and saute for 3 minutes.

Add mushrooms and continue to saute on low heat until they are softened.

Then, add lentils, broccoli and enough water to cover.

Simmer on low until the broccoli and lentils are tender.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Make sure to consume in proximity to a bathroom.

If you’ve fallen off the Sweet Freedom Train, the best way to get back on track is to start the day with this Green Smoothie Recipe.

I’m giving you our secret weapon to curbing sugar cravings, healing sugar erosion and replacing nutrients lost from sugar consumption.

Recently I had a big dose of MSG in a meal in a place I didn’t expect it, a vegan burrito at a trendy vegetarian taco place. I ended up with a massive and disturbing reaction.

You may think it’s dramatic but I call it MSG poisoning.

I felt like I’d drunk 20 cups of coffee, I couldn’t sleep until about 4 in the morning and it also triggered massive sugar cravings the next day.

This is my easiest green smoothie recipe for getting back on track after a night out of celebrating or having a meal that leaves you feeling less than stellar.

It’s also good for general healing and nourishing purposes too!

Green Smoothie Recipe

? Ingredients ?

  • 1 apple quartered
  • 1-2 cups chopped kale or spinach
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 tbsp Hemp Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Soaked Chia Seeds
  • Spring Water or Filtered to cover

? Instructions ?

1. Soak Chia Seeds in water for 10+ minutes or overnight.

2. Place all ingredients in the blender and blend.

3. Take a sip and take a photo of your green moustache! #SweetFreedomLife
