Despite the large claims made on the front of cereal boxes saying “100% whole grain” and “High in fiber!”, these boxed up versions of breakfast are still spiking your blood sugar and doing you much more harm than good.
So Sweet Freedom is here to give you 5 alternatives to those sugary breakfast cereals, because the best way to get a little Sweet Freedom in your life is to start when you wake up:
1. Avocado toast on sprouted grain bread
Add a bit of sea salt and squeeze of lemon juice or even some in season ripe tomatoes and you’ve got one simple, satiating and nourishing meal to start your day.
2. A piece of fruit!
This can be ANY fruit. Fruits contain nourishing compounds, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that have such a positive effect on our bodies. Plus since you’re eating a whole food, you’re getting all the natural fiber along with it so it won’t spike your blood sugar.
3. Smoothie
These are so easy to prepare and if you’re strapped for time in the morning, throw your ingredients into the blender the night before – fill with water and store it in the refrigerator so it’s ready to blended on your way out the door! Watch as your commute gets THAT much better with a Sweet Freedom smoothie in hand.
4. Energy bars
No, we don’t mean those store bought sugar packed energy bars in the checkout line, we mean our special Sweet Freedom recipe. Pop these in a tupperware in the refrigerator so you have them on hand whenever you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to make breakfast.
5. Homemade dinner from the night before
It sounds a bit unorthodox, but have you ever made such a delicious dinner that you leave some leftovers and think, I could eat this for breakfast. Here at Sweet Freedom, we love dinner for breakfast especially when it’s a nutrient packed flavor filled meal.
We’ve all been in that position where you’re just not prepared and you feel as though there is no alternative, you’ve got to grab something quick because it has been drilled into your head since you were a kid that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
If you have no alternatives for breakfast – consider not breaking your fast. Contrary to what big breakfast industry has sold us, It is a much better alternative to wait for something that is nourishing, energizing and protective than to eat something that is going to spike your blood sugar first thing in the morning.
Fasting allows our bodies to rest and regenerate so it doesn’t have to focus on breaking down food. So next time you’re looking for breakfast and you don’t have any of the options above, consider waiting until you have access to something nourishing, energizing and protective.
Your brain and body will thank you.
